David A. Peirce Sr.

David A. Peirce Sr., 74, of 96 Depot St. died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Worcester on Jan. 4, 1932, son of Roger and Eleanor Gerrior Peirce, he attended schools in Worcester and graduated from Clark University with a B.A. in English and a master's degree in education.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a medic during the Korean War, spending most of his service in Germany.
He was employed by the Pittsfield public school system for 30 years as an English teacher at Pittsfield High School. He organized a high school debate society early in his career and coached the PHS team. He retired in 1993.
Mr. Peirce was a golfer and a member of the Pontoosuc Country Club. He also loved reading and classical music, and was a volunteer at Tanglewood for a number of years after retirement.
He leaves his wife, the former Phyllis J. Polumbo, whom he married Dec. 29, 1956.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Suzanne Peirce of Pittsfield; two sons, David Peirce Jr. of Cheshire and Stephen Peirce of Dalton; two brothers, Phillip Peirce of Brookfield and Roger Peirce of Wisconsin, and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A brief service in memory of David A. Peirce, who died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Mr. Peirce's family has asked that donations be made to the Friends of Renal Dialysis at BMC in lieu of flowers. He leaves four grandchildren, David, Mathew, Hannah and Clara.
