Agnes M. "Ginger" Spence

Agnes M. "Ginger" Spence, 63, of 19 Draper Ave. died Monday at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn.

Born in Pittsfield, April 13, 1942, the daughter of Charles E. and Agnes Hanrath Kennedy, she attended local schools and was a 1959 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

She was employed as a secretary for the Pittsfield Public Schools at Hibbard Alternative School, retiring in 2002. Previously she was employed at General Electric in various departments for 29 years.

A communicant of St. Mary the Morning Star Church, she enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises, cooking and playing the slots at Foxwoods. She was also an avid reader. She and her husband, the late John J. "Jack" Spence, were married April 25, 1964. He died Dec. 14, 1995.

She leaves two sons, Stephen P. Spence and Timothy M. Spence, both of Pittsfield; four brothers, Peter, Christopher, Philip and Anthony Kennedy, all of Pittsfield; three sisters, Mary Ricchi of Pittsfield, Francine Clairmont of Adams and Kathleen Curletti of Carolina Beach, N.C., and four grandchildren.


FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Agnes M. "Ginger" Spence, who died Monday, March 20, 2006, will be held Friday, March 24, at 9:15 a.m. from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary the Morning Star Church celebrated by Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mikaela Benoit, Stephen P. Spence Jr., Jack Spence and Sarah Spence. Ginger will be remembered as a good friend that was always willing to lend a helping hand.
