Mary Kirby, 85, of 182 Ashuelot St. died Saturday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
Born in Pittsfield on April 9, 1921, daughter of William C. and Grace Mahanna Kirby, she was a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. Miss Kirby worked at General Electric Co. for a short time before enrolling in the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing program, from which she graduated in February 1946.
She retired in 1993 from Berkshire Medical Center, where she was named employee of the month in 1986. Before that, she was employed for many years by Dr. Daniel Dorman and was a registered nurse at the former St. Luke's Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church in Dalton and a member of the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing Alumni. She enjoyed tennis, cross country skiing and sports, and was a Red Sox fan. She leaves many nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary Kirby, 85, who died March 18, 2006, will be Thursday at 9
from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Agnes' Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 6 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. She was predeceased by her longtime friend, Margaret "Marge" Haley. She enjoyed attending her nieces' and nephews' sporting events. She also leaves great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
