Ruth M. Lewis

Ruth M. Lewis, 88, of 7 Park Terrace died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 28, 1917, daughter of Bert A. and Nettie Greb Gaylord, she was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She moved to Dalton in the 1950s.
Mrs. Lewis was employed by the former Dalton Nursing Home for 14 years, retiring in 1981. Before that, she worked for several years at General Electric Co.
She was a member of First Congregational Church and of its Bible study group. She was also a member of the Dalton Council on Aging and of its Triad group and served as a mentor at Berkshire Trail Elementary School in Becket. She enjoyed playing cards.
Mrs. Lewis was a longtime foster mother.
Her husband, George E. Lewis, whom she married June 9, 1935, died Oct. 18, 1981.
She leaves a son, Russell G. Lewis of Hinsdale; a daughter, Linda R. Briggs of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Norman Gaylord of Lambert Lake, Maine; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ruth M. Lewis, who died March 18, 2006, will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at First Congregational Church in Dalton by Rev. Robert R. Kyte, pastor.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. Mrs. Lewis was one of nine children and leaves many nieces, nephews and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dalton Congregational Church memorial fund, in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
