Beatrice I. Todd

Beatrice I. Todd, 91, of 176 Columbus Ave., died at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility on Thursday. She had resided there for three months.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 14, 1914, daughter of William T. and Ida H. Tucker Todd, she grew up in the Berkshire Village section of Lanesborough and attended schools there.
She was employed by the former Pittsfield General Hospital in the laboratory. Previously, she had worked as a domestic.
In 1963 she moved to Boston, working as a domestic, moving to work in Boston University Medical Center in the laboratory, then Opportunities Industrial Center.
She volunteered at the Health and Welfare Committee of the Model Cities Agency, the Boston Consumer's Health Council and the Boston Afro-American History Museum on Beacon Hill. She was a member of the League of Women's Voters. She became a school volunteer and a visiting lecturer on black history and spoke at many colleges and elementary schools.
She returned to Pittsfield in September of 2005, and was instrumental in having Berkshire Mall place a memorial near the Todd Family property, which was once part of the Underground Railroad.
She leaves two daughters, Joyce A Brown, of Wilmington and Adele M. Bradley, of Pittsfield; a son, Timothy P. Todd, of Springfield; 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Eva M. Todd, and a son, Thomas T. Todd.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- At the request of Beatrice I. Todd, who died Thursday, March 9, 2006, there will be no services or calling hours. Ms. Todd donated her body to the Boston University Medical School for research.
Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Tewksbury at a later date. She also leaves a son-in-law, Robert A. Brown, a daughter-in law, Pauline Todd, and four great-great grandchildren.
