Sara Elizabeth Silver, 93, formerly of Pleasant View Drive in Claverack, N.Y., died Friday at Chestnut Hill Nursing Home. She was the mother of Dr. Steven Silver, a former area resident who worked at Berkshire Medical Center and had a local medical practice.
Born in Hudson, N.Y., on Jan. 11, 1913, daughter of Joseph and Mary Bessmertnick Rosenberg, she was a graduate of Hudson High School and Columbia University Business School.
Mrs. Silver was employed by Financial Federal Corp. in New York before retiring to Hudson. Before that, she worked as head of advertising for Hearn's Department Store in New York.
She was an active member of Congregation Anshe Emeth and Hadassah in Hudson.
She and her husband, Harold I. Silver, were married 63 years before his death in 1999.
Besides her son, she leaves two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Sara E. Silver will be conducted today, March 5, at noon at Congregation Anshe Emeth, 240 Joslen Blvd., Hudson, NY 12534. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson. Shiva will be held at 7 tonight at the home of Janice and Arthur Koweek in Hudson, N.Y., and 7 tomorrow night at the home of Dr. Steven Silver and Patti Silver in Longmeadow. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Anshe Emeth or to the Baystate Medical Center Nursing Scholarship Fund, 759 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01104.
Arrangements are with Bates & Anderson -- Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green St., Hudson. Survivors also include a daughter-in-law, Patti; two grandchildren, Johanna and Joshua, and a grandson-in-law, Adam Menzel. She also was predeceased by her sister, Celia Silber, and her brother, Philip Rosenberg.
