Helene A. "Pokey" Stannard, 62, of 7 Dogwood Lane died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 26, 1943, daughter of Gifford Potter Sr. and Mabel Potter, she was a 1961 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Stannard was employed by the Pittsfield Public Schools for 22 years as a bus monitor for special-needs students. Previously, she worked at General Electric Co. in the ordnance department for six years.
She enjoyed playing bingo and was a Miami Dolphins and Boston Red Sox fan.
She and her husband, Ralph "Butch" Stannard, were married June 6, 1964, at St. Francis' Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Kevin Stannard and Shaun Stannard, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Thomas "Butch" Potter of Pittsfield; three sisters, Barbara Chandler and Carolyn Rousseau, both of Pittsfield, and Patricia Dellaghelfa of Adams, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Helene A. "Pokey" Stannard, who died March 3, 2006, will be Tuesday, March 7, at 8:15 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Boys' and Girls' Club of Pittsfield in care of the funeral home. She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren, Brendan and Caden Stannard, and her daughters-in-law, Kelly and Michelle. She was predeceased by a brother, Gifford Potter Jr., and a sister, Beverly Slater.
