Carlo S. Pelaccio, 79, of 38 Dartmouth St. died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since January.
Born in Pittsfield on June 1, 1926, son of Salvatore and Splendore Placido Pelaccio, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Northern France and received several campaign medals.
Mr. Pelaccio was employed by General Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Italian-American Club and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He enjoyed playing cards and going to casinos and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He leaves his wife, the former Beatrice M. Cavallaro, whom he married July 31, 1954, at St. Anthony's Church in North Adams.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Carlo J. Pelaccio died Sunday, March 5, 2006. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, Mass., by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, pastor of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Carlo also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ida Sokolowski, and by three brothers, John J., Paul P. and Arthur J. Pelaccio.
