Richard A. Cabral

Richard A. Cabral, 86, died Sunday morning at his home in the Curtis Apartments.
Born on Sept. 5, 1919, in Provincetown, son of Antone and Margaret Tasha Cabral, he was educated in schools in Dorchester.
Mr. Cabral served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1948, he moved to the Berkshires, eventually settling in Tyringham, where he raised show dogs and Arabian horses.
He owned Cabral Body Shop in Lee. After retiring in the late 1980s he moved to Austerlitz, N.Y.
He was a member of the Eastern Competitive Trail Riding Association, serving as president in 1980 and again in 1994. He competed in 40-, 60- and 100-mile trail rides from 1970 to 2000, with a lifetime record of 11,863 miles, an accomplishment he shares with only 10 other riders as of 2005.
Mr. Cabral enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and bridge. He was also an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus.
He leaves a son, Steven Cabral of West Stockbridge; a daughter, Susan Lester of Pittsfield; a brother, Robert Cabral of Weymouth; a sister, Patricia Derryberry of Phoenix, and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Richard A. Cabral, who died Feb. 26, 2006, will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. KELLY FUNERAL HOMEis in charge of arrangements.
He also leaves his six grandchildren, Caleb, Travis, Stefanie and Samantha Cabral and Quinn and Shelley Lester; a daughter-in-law, Susan Cabral; a son-in-law, Edwin Lester, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Marian Callan.
