Leverne John "Butch" Taylor

Leverne John "Butch" Taylor, 75, of 1300 East St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in North Adams on July 3, 1930, he was the son of Leverne H. and Agnes Luczynski Taylor. When he was just 3 years old, his birth mother died, and he was raised by the only mother he ever knew, Eleanor Watkins Taylor.

He attended schools in Lanesborough and Pittsfield, and was a 1948 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Mr. Taylor was last employed as a custodian and an assembler in the Arresters Department at General Electric Company, where he had worked for eight years. Prior to that, he had worked for A&P Supermarket for 33 years. For five years, following his retirement from GE, he worked at Harry's Supermarket on Elm Street. He retired in 2005.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Dalton American Legion Post 155.

He enjoyed bowling, golf and bingo.

Mr. Taylor leaves his wife, the former Judith M. Blair, whom he married in St. Mark's Church on Oct. 15, 1955.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Steven J. Taylor and Gregg M. Taylor, both of Pittsfield; two daughters, Linda Marie Collins of Pittsfield and MaryBeth Taylor of Dalton; two brothers, Robert G. Taylor of Lanesborough and Bruce Taylor of Pittsfield; two sisters, Judith Sweener and Eleanor Rosier, both of Lanesborough; five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Leverne John "Butch" Taylor, who died Monday, Feb. 20, will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Taylor may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield MA 01201.

Mr. Taylor is also survived by his sons-in-law, Michael J. Collins Sr. and Eric M. LaFrance; a daughter-in-law, Laura A. Taylor; as well as his five grandchildren, Amanda Collins, Katie Collins, Michael Taylor, Sarah Taylor and Todd Taylor, and his great-granddaughter, Chloe Marie Gordon.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Norman Taylor and Charles Taylor, and a sister, Emily Amuso.
