Genevieve "Jean" Koldys

Genevieve "Jean" Koldys, 87, of Pittsfield died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in New Britain, Conn., on May 16, 1918, daughter of Alexander and Katherine Sondej Sierputowski, she attended and graduated from schools there.
Mrs. Koldys was employed for many years by the Pittsfield Public Schools as a crossing guard at the intersection of First and Orchard streets for the former Mercer School and for Morningside Community School. She retired in 1982.
Before moving to Pittsfield in 1947, she was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft during World War II.
She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality and Mothers' Guild, where she contributed to their many projects through her sewing talents.
She enjoyed cooking and tennis, and was a fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
She and her husband, Raymond Koldys, were married Feb. 1, 1947. He died Feb. 21, 1988.
She leaves two sons, Alexander F. Koldys of Lanesborough and Raymond J. Koldys of Pittsfield; a daughter, Katherine A. Koldys of South Hadley, and a grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Genevieve "Jean" Koldys, 87, who died Feb. 19, 2006, will be Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
She is also lovingly survived by her grandson, Joseph Koldys; several nieces and nephews; five sisters-in-law, and many special friends at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
