Richard Ernest Koch Jr.

Richard Ernest Koch Jr., 93, of 22 Jayne Ave. died Friday at home.

Born in Adams on July 12, 1912, son of Richard E. Koch Sr. and Annie Karnitchka Koch, he attended schools there.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Koch was employed by the former Berkshire Leather Co. for 50 years as a leather cutter and inspector. He retired in 1987.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of American Legion Post 68, where he served as a past commander. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriffs' Association and Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564, where he was a bingo volunteer.

Mr. Koch was a blood donor and was recognized with a 15-gallon pin. He was the last Berkshire County member of the former 40+8 Club, where he served as grand cheminot.

He and his wife, the former Mary C. Mazza, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary Dec. 11. They were married at Mount Carmel Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard L. Koch of Fresno, Calif., and Dennis R. Koch of Pittsfield; a daughter, Carol Ann Kirchner of Cheshire; two sisters, Ella Koldrubski of Lanesborough and Betty Chelstowski of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Richard Ernest Koch Jr., who died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, will be Monday, Feb. 13, at 2 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Paul Burns, CSS, visiting priest, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Koch may be made to Berkshire Community Action Council or to Elder Services of Berkshire County in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

He leaves his son-in-law, Michael Kirchner; his daughters-in-law, Diane Koch and Joyce Koch; his grandchildren, Melissa Bongini, Deanna Edwards, Dennis R. Koch Jr., Michael L. Kirchner Jr., Jeffrey A. Koch, Matthew R. Kirchner and Timothy S. Koch, and his great-grandchildren, Karissa, Jarred, Joseph, Mia and Anna.
