Susan M. Melle

Susan M. Melle, 88, of 123 Everett Road, Barre, a former Pittsfield resident, died Wednesday at the Christopher House in Worcester, where she had resided since Dec. 2005.

Born in Pittsfield on June 4, 1917, daughter of Mario and Maria DiDomenicantonio Spinelli, she attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1935.

She was employed in the Cafeteria Department of Taconic High School as a cashier for 24 years, retiring in 1997. She moved to Barre in June 2002.

While in Pittsfield, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She enjoyed Bingo, knitting, walking, reading and cooking.

Her husband, Frank J. Melle, whom she married on Jan. 15, 1942, died May 13, 1973.

She leaves two sons, Frank A. Melle of Holliston and Daniel D. Melle of Barre, with whom she made her home; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Susan M. Melle, who died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, will take place Monday at 9 a.m. from FLYNN-DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 354 Fenn St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Paul D. Burns, C.S.S., officiating.

Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Survivors include two sons, Frank A. Melle and his wife Shirley of Holliston and Daniel D. Melle and his wife Patricia of Barre; six grandchildren, Saundra, Paul, Nicholas, Matthew and Gina Melle and Ward Quaglietti, and two great-grandchildren, Joselle and Joseph Quaglietti.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Armand, Anthony and Paul N. Spinelli, and two sisters, Anna and Rose Spinelli. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield MA 01201.
