Charles Michael Pallos

Charles Michael Pallos, 74, of 34 Howe Road died yesterday morning at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
Born in Monroe, Mich., Feb. 11, 1931, a son of Michael C. and Mary J. Sever Pallos, he was a 1948 graduate of Buffalo Technical High School in Buffalo, N.Y., and of Canisius College, where he took pre-engineering courses. He continued his education in electrical engineering at the University of Detroit, and in engineering at the University of Buffalo.
A Korean War veteran, he served as a Second Class Petty Officer in the Navy from 1948 through 1952. During that time, he received training in sonar operation and maintenance, navigation and tracking, and Navy Instructor's School.
In May 1960, Mr. Pallos began a 30-year career with General Electric when he went to work as an engineer writer and group leader in Syracuse. From there, he progressed to project leader of technical manuals, to manager of command and control centers technical manuals, where he was responsible for the development and production of technical manuals for command and control centers' products. From there, he went on to be manager of personnel subsystems.
As manager of the Syracuse operations, his responsibilities also included the inventory and control of surplus government property in Syracuse and in Columbus, Ohio.
In 1978, Mr. Pallos was transferred to the Naval Ordnance plant in Pittsfield, where he served as manager of technical publications which included the initiation and authorization of all quotes, publication plans, contract reviews, control of customer liaison, work/cost structuring, quality control, subcontract purchasing and end item shipping schedules. He retired in 1990.
Prior to his career with General Electric, Mr. Pallos was employed by Chrysler Corp., Westinghouse Corp., Bell Aircraft Corp. and Sylvania Electric Co.
He was a communicant of St. Charles Church and a member of the Elks Club, where he had served as an exalted ruler. He was also a member of the American Legion. A sports fan who enjoyed baseball, football and hockey, he had a special passion for the N.Y. Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.
Mr. Pallos leaves his wife, the former Gloria Chiacchia, whom he married June 28, 1955; three sons, Mark L. Pallos of Pittsfield, Dino A. Pallos of Lanesborough and Michael C. Pallos II of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; two daughters, Dannielle Rice of Dallas, and Charlaine Burkett of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Madeline Alonzo of Buffalo, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, and a great-grandson. He was pre-deceased by a son, Charles C. Pallos, who died in 1995.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Charles Michael Pallos, who died Tuesday, Feb. 7, will be Friday, Feb. 10, at 9:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Pallos may be made to the Elks Scholarship Fund, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Pittsfield Boys' and Girls' Club, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Pallos is also survived by his son-in-law, Tom Burkett, and his daughters-in-law, Marisa Pallos and Hannah Pallos.
