Nathan Edward Kulis

Nathan Edward Kulis, 86, formerly of Columbia Arms Apartments, 65 Columbus Ave., died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since December 2004.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 27, 1919, son of Peter and Frances C. Smegal Kurtis, he attended local schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1946 and received several campaign medals.
Mr. Kulis was employed by the MassHighway Department for 27 years, retiring in 1980 as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a member and past president of the Polish Community Club.
He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, gardening and fixing appliances.
His wife the, former Emily Canino, whom he married June 20, 1942, at Mount Carmel Church, died Dec. 8, 2001.
He leaves two sons, Peter Kulis of Ormond Beach, Fla., and John Kulis of Pittsfield; two daughters, Frances Pelletier of Dalton and Linda Stewart of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Nathan E. Kulis, who died Feb. 3, 2006, will be Tuesday at 9 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 until leaving for the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cerebral Palsy, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mr. Kulis was predeceased by two brothers, John and Peter Kulis, and by four sisters, Anna Catucci, Rose Ferguson, Stephanie Keeler and Bertha Archey.
