Irene Novak

Irene Novak, 69, formerly of 61 Dewey Ave., died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.

Born in Sand, Hungary, on Aug. 20, 1936, daughter of the late Pal and Julia Szmodics Horvath, she immigrated to the United States with her husband in 1956 and received her U.S. citizenship in 1970.

She attended night school and received her high school diploma. She also took courses at Berkshire Community College.

Mrs. Novak was an assembler at General Electric Co. ordnance in the tank shop for 20 years.

She and her husband, Dezso D. Novak, were married in 1957. He died Jan. 18, 1969.

Mrs. Novak was a member of Victory Church of God and Christ.

She leaves two sons, David Novak of Pittsfield and John Novak of Milford, Ohio; three daughters, Julia Novak and Zsa Zsa Taylor, both of Pittsfield, and Jessica Ramsdell of Charlton; a sister, Ilonka Szabo of Harosbeny, Hungary; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Irene Novak, who died Jan. 29, 2006, will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at 11 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Charles Pratt Jr.

Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Victory Church of God.

Mrs. Novak also leaves three grandchildren, Adam Taylor, Zsa Zsa V. Taylor and Samuel Ramsdell, and a great-grandchild, Cameron Cyr. She lived a full and meaningful life and was well loved and will be missed by her children and grandchildren.
