Annie Cowley Phelan

Annie Cowley Phelan, 86, of 330 Paradise Road, Swampscott, died Friday at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center where she had resided since July 2004.
Born Oct. 17, 1919, in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of William and Margaret Hart Cowley, her family returned to Bolton, England, shortly after her birth.
They returned to the United States when she was 13, and moved to Pittsfield. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1930, and attended the former Berkshire Business College.
Mrs. Phelan was employed by the Mount Greylock School District as a teacher's aide.
She was a lifelong member of Morningside Baptist Church.
She married William M. Phelan in 1942. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Phelan leaves two sons, Matthew Phelan of Lynn, and Robert Phelan of West Springfield; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Annie C. Phelan, who died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, will be Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 with the Rev. Susan Zacher officiating.
Burial will be in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Among survivors are her grandchildren, William, Lori and Jennifer Phelan and Andrea Mercure; her daughter-in-law Evelyn Phelan; two nieces, Marjorie Harlow and Alice Galle, her recent companion, George Anderson and her dear friends, the Cohn family.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Peter and Mathew Phelan, and two sisters, Nancy Cowley and Alice Evans.
