Frederick A. McGinnis

Frederick A. McGinnis, 63, of Paradise Hill Road, Bellows Falls, Vt., a Pittsfield native, died Friday at his home from cancer.

He was born in Pittsfield, March 31, 1942, son of the late Harry and Dorothy Kirchner McGinnis and his stepmother, the late Helen Kruckowski Zuorsky McGinnis.

He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School.

He was a 10-year member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard and worked for The Berkshire Eagle for many years before relocating to Bellows Falls in 1981. He worked for Steamtown Inc. and then for Green Mountain Railroad and New England Central Railroad until his retirement in 1997.

Mr. McGinnis was an avid wildlife photographer and enjoyed kayaking. He was also a train enthusiast. He enjoyed photographing rare and vintage trains and creating his own model railroad layouts.

Mr. McGinnis served on the Rockingham Selectboard, the Bellows Falls Union High School Board of Directors and the Rockingham Planning Commission. He was also a longtime member of the Saxtons River Volunteer Fire Department.

He and his wife, the former Carol Weber Meyerrose, were married May 20, 1990, at their home.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Shaun M. McGinnis of Bellows Falls, Christopher P. McGinnis of New York City and Scott M. McGinnis of Pittsfield; two stepdaughters, Gabrielle M. Holmes of Aldus, Okla., and Heidi K. Meyerrose of Claremont, N.H.; a stepson, Franz D. Meyerrose of Bellows Falls; two brothers, Harry McGinnis of Pittsfield and Daniel McGinnis of Dalton; a stepsister, Evelyn Zuorski Bandurski of Florida; a stepbrother, William Zuorsky of Housatonic; two grandsons; four granddaughters, and his former wife, Geraldine Siok Porter of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by an infant son, Scott M. McGinnis.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral Mass for Frederick Alan McGinnis, who died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, will be celebrated by the Rev. Lance Harlow at St. Charles Church on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at 11 a.m.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the FENTON & HENNESSEY FUNERAL HOME, Bellows Falls, Vt. Burial will take place in the Rockingham Meeting House Cemetery. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Lori McGinnis, of Bellows Falls, stepson-in-law, Matthew Holmes of Aldus, and nieces and nephews.

He could often be seen kayaking along the Connecticut River with his wife, Carol, and cameras in tow. He shared his love of trains by building model railroads with his children and grandchildren.
