Joan A. Phelan, 62, of 6 Bow Center Road, Bow, N.H., died Friday at Kindred Hospital of Boston/Northshore in Peabody, following a long illness.
She left the Berkshires in 2002.
Born in Pittsfield on April 22, 1943, daughter of George and Marie Lavigne Marshall, she graduated in 1960 from Pittsfield High School.
She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and of St. Anne's Church, Hampstead, N.H.
Mrs. Phelan worked for the Office of the District Attorney for Berkshire County, retiring in 2002. Prior to that she was employed as an operator for the former New England Telephone and as a secretary at Traveler's Insurance Co.
She and her husband, Thomas J. Phelan, celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on Oct. 12.
Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Sandra Stanton of Hampstead, Sheila Scharer of Essex, Vt., and Sharon Meaney of Bow; two brothers, Thomas Marshall and John Marshall, both of Kissimmee, Fla.; five sisters, Jane Emerson, Maureen Perkins and Kathleen Rennie, all of Orlando, Fla., and Eileen White and Ellen Lantz, both of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joan Phelan, who died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, will be Tuesday at 9:30 from BROOKSIDE CHAPEL & FUNERAL HOME, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead.
Calling hours are tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, N.H. Burial will be in the West Hampstead Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH, 03110.
She also leaves three sons-in-law, Kevin Stanton, Ted Scharer and James Meaney, and five grandchildren, Meghan Stanton, Michael Stanton, Ryan Meaney, Caitlin Meaney and Cassandra Meaney.
