Elmer F. Blake

Elmer F. Blake, 82, of 151 Jason St. died Sunday after a two-month stay at Springside of Pittsfield nursing facility.

Born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1923, son of Louis and Ella Barber Blake, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1941.

A World War II veteran, he served with his twin brother, Earl L. Blake, at the 8th Air Force Liberator Station, 491st Bomber Group, in England. Assigned to the same aircraft, Mr. Blake was the tail gunner and his brother, a midfuselage gunner. They flew 31 missions over the continent and were awarded Air Medals with oak leaf clusters.

Mr. Blake was co-owner of Pyramid Mold.

A motorcycle enthusiast, he owned 37 over a period of 50 years and rode until he was 70.

He enjoyed trout fishing throughout the Northeast, tying his own flies and making his own casting rods.

He and his wife, the former Anne M. Lavelle, were married 62 years.

Besides his wife and brother, of Colonial Heights, Va., he leaves a daughter, Christine A. Blake of Pittsfield; three sons, William F. Blake of Great Barrington, and Dennis L. Blake and Jeffrey L. Blake, both of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mr. Elmer F. Blake will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 5, at 11 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. John Cunningham. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.

Calling hours will be tomorrow, Jan. 4, from 4 to 7. Among survivors are his grandchildren, Kellie Houle, Brian Reardon, Nicole Rodhouse and Christie Blake, and nine great-grandchildren, Austin, Bradley and Kyle Reardon, Bethany, Jessica and Sarah Houle, Nicholas and Ashley Rodhouse, and Lillie Ann Senseney.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanuel Community Church or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
