Mildred Amelia Bernardo, 90, formerly of 176 Columbus Ave., died yesterday morning at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided since Nov. 1998.
Born in Chicopee, Mass. Aug. 31, 1915, daughter of Emanuel and Amelia D.A. Rodignez Cardozo, she was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Ms. Bernardo was employed as a housekeeper in area private homes for more than 30 years. At one time, she worked at the former Pajama Factory of Fourth Street.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
A member of the former Portuguese American Club, she enjoyed traveling, visiting Portugal many times, and had wintered in Tampa, Fla.
She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband, Fausto G. Bernardo, whom she married Nov. 21, 1936, in St. Joseph's Church, died Nov. 10, 2002.
She leaves a son, Alfred J. Bernardo of Lee; a daughter, Mary A. Francoeur of Pittsfield; a sister, Gloria Sylvia of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Jimmy Bernardo of Pittsfield, who died in 1990.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mildred A. Bernardo, who died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, will be held Friday at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ms. Bernardo may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
