Michael J. Latura

Michael J. Latura, 71, of 160 Newell St. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on April 18, 1934, son of John and Angelina Castronova Latura, he attended Pittsfield High School.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Mindoro.
Mr. Latura was employed as a papermaker at Schweitzer-Mauduit International in Lee for more than 30 years. He retired in 1981 because of a disability.
He was a member of the Italian-American Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448.
He played many years for the James' Jewelers softball team and enjoyed fishing, baseball and playing cards.
He and his wife, the former Nancy Boyd Macik, were married in November 1998.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Richard and Sean Latura, both of Pittsfield, and J. Michael Latura of Palm Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Sandra Butler of Pittsfield, Sheila M. Hankey of Great Barrington and Elaine F. Latura of Pottsville, Pa.; two stepsons, Joseph E. Macik and James M. Macik, both of Pittsfield; three stepdaughters, Danielle A. Kenyon and Kelle M. Hostetter, both of Pittsfield, and Jodi L. Hostetter of the town of Washington; three sisters, Dolly Hunt of Pittsfield, and Rose Skowron and Elaine "Chichi" Boyd, both of Cleveland; 21 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Another son, Jaime Latura, died Nov. 22, 2004.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Michael J. Latura, who died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be prior to the service, from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
