The Rev. Charles E. McNeice, S.S.E.

The Rev. Charles E. McNeice, S.S.E., 71, of Colchester, Vt., formerly of Pittsfield, died Monday, Dec. 19, in Underhill (Vt.) State Park while on his daily walk.
Born in Pittsfield on May 28, 1934, son of James and Ruth Croughwell McNeice, he graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1952 and St. Michael's College in Colchester in 1958.
He completed his theological training at St. Edmund's Seminary in Burlington, Vt., and was ordained a priest on May 31, 1962.
He was a professed member of the Society of St. Edmund for 48 years, and an Edmundite priest for 43 years.
He served as parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth Parish in Selma, Ala., from 1962 to 1966; St. Edmund of Canterbury Parish in Whitton, England, from 1969 to 1972, and St. Lawrence Parish in Essex Junction, Vt., from 1972 to 1973.
He was pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Williston, Vt., from 1973 to 1976; St. Edmund of Canterbury Parish in Whitton, England, from 1976 to 1978; Our Mother of Mercy Parish in Plateau, Ala., and Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Prichard, Ala., from 1984 to 1997, and St. Joseph's Parish in Tuskegee, Ala., from 1997 to 2003.
Rev. McNeice conducted the Edmundite Youth Program at St. Edmund's Novitiate in Mystic, Conn., and served as a vocation director from 1966 to 1969.
While he spent many years serving in the Edmundite Southern Missions of Alabama, he wanted to spend his senior years in Vermont at St. Michael's College. Although retired from administrative responsibilities, Rev. McNeice continued to help local clergy when they needed coverage.
He enjoyed the four seasons in Vermont and enjoyed walking daily along a bike path or cross-country ski trail.
He leaves two sisters, Catherine White of Dalton and Mary Ann Archey of Pittsfield, and three brothers, David McNeice of Pittsfield, Robert McNeice of Richmond, Va., and James McNeice Jr. of Dalton.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 26, at LaVIGNE FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., Winooski, Vt., from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a Wake service at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton, Vt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Edmundite Southern Missions, 1428 Broad St., Selma, AL 36701.
He was predeceased by a brother, John McNeice of Baltimore, Md.
