Bernard Joseph Simoneau Sr.

Bernard Joseph Simoneau Sr., 78, of 115 Memorial Drive died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.

Born in Auburn on Jan. 1, 1927, son of Ferdinand and Marguerite Simoneau, he attended schools there and graduated from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

He had lived in Pittsfield most of his life.

A World War II Army veteran, he served with the Army in the European theater.

Mr. Simoneau was employed as a salesman in the sporting goods department of the former Besse-Clarke store until his retirement. He also worked briefly at General Electric Co. and was a golf professional/instructor and greenskeeper at the General Electric Athletic Association Golf Club for many years.

He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a longtime volunteer with the Friends of Wild Acres.

He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and dancing, and was a member of several pitch leagues.

He and his wife, the former Teresa Pleppo, were married June 30, 1953.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Bernard J. Simoneau Jr. of Adams; a daughter, Ann McCarthy of Lanesboro; a brother, Armand Simoneau of Pittsfield; two sisters, Jeannette Hagan of the state of Florida and Sonia Gravel of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Bernard J. Simoneau Sr., who died Dec. 16, 2005, will be Monday, Dec. 19, at 11 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.

Calling hours will be Monday from 10 until the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Wild Acres through the funeral home. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Gena Simoneau of Adams; a son-in-law, Frank McCarthy of Lanesboro; three grandchildren, Colin and Devon McCarthy and Jamie Ciempa; a great-granddaughter, Erin Lee Ciempa, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
