Albert A. Blaney

Albert A. Blaney, 83, of West Heights Lane, Ozark, Mo., a former resident of Lenoxdale, died Thursday at home.

He moved to Ozark in 2000.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 23, 1922, son of Arthur and Ida Funk Blaney, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1940 and from the draftsman training program at General Electric Co.

He was employed as a draftsman in GE's power transformer division for more than 40 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of Fremont Hills First Baptist Church. While living in Lenoxdale, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Pittsfield, the GE Quarter Century Club and the General Electric Athletic Association.

He enjoyed the Yankees, bowling and playing golf.

His wife, the former Arna Jean Brookman, whom he married Dec. 3, 1949, in Pittsfield, died Oct. 14, 2004.

He leaves three daughters, Jean A. Smith of Ozark, Robin G. Bower of North Palm Beach, Fla., and Kim A. Huette of Keller, Texas; a brother, Clayton Blaney of Pittsfield; a sister, Beryl Hourihan of Burlington Flats, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Albert A. "Handsome Al" Blaney will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox by the Rev. Art Hicklin, pastor of Fremont Hills Baptist Church in Ozark, Mo. Burial will be in the spring in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Blaney's memory may be made to either Community Hospices of America, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society, all in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.

Mr. Blaney also is survived by his loving grandchildren, Eric Vreeland, Tod Smith, Bonnie Smith Toner, Melissa Bower, David Bower III, and Nicole M. and Morgan A. Huette; his great-grandchildren, Hanna and Nathan Smith; and his sons-in-law, Monte L. Smith, David Bower II and Mike Huette; his brother-in-law, Jim Hourihan, and sister-in-law, Norma Blaney.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ida and Arthur Blaney, and his grandson, Aaron Vreeland.
