John J. O'Brien Jr.

John J. O'Brien Jr., 77, of Taconic Avenue died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 25, 1928, son of John J. O'Brien Sr. and Elizabeth Keegan O'Brien, he was a 1947 graduate of Lenox High School.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. O'Brien was employed by the former Bull's Chevrolet for more than 30 years, in charge of warranty repairs. He later worked at the former O'Connell Chevrolet and at Lindsay Chevrolet, both in Pittsfield, until retiring in 1990.
He also was a special police officer for the Lenox Police Department and, for many summers, was in charge of the Tanglewood traffic detail. A charter member of the Lenox Police Association, he was presented with a plaque at a ceremony at Town Hall in 2004 honoring 50 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and a member of the Lenox Fire Department and Stickles-Turnure Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2568. He enjoyed gardening and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He and his wife, the former Jeannette A. Lyman of Hinsdale, were married in St. Ann's Church on Sept. 7, 1959.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael E. O'Brien of Lee; a daughter, Nancy A. Pirzl of Dalton; a sister, Barbara E. Gaherty of Lenox; two brothers, Richard E. O'Brien of Lenox and Charles W. O'Brien of Lee, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John J. O'Brien Jr., 77, who died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, will be Wednesday at 10:15 from Roche Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Ann's Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. O'Brien's memory may be made to either the Lenox Police Association or St. Ann's Church, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
Mr. O'Brien is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Kelly A. Pirzl and John H. Pirzl Jr.
