Iive M. Rouse

Iive M. Rouse, 70, of 126 Mountain Drive, died Monday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Tallinn, Estonia, on May 19, 1935, daughter of Ursula Rogar Aldre and the late Manivald Aldre, she left Estonia in advance of the invading Russian Army in 1944.
She emigrated to the United States with her parents and younger brother after spending two years as a displaced person in the American Occupation Zone of Germany. Her family settled in Minneapolis in 1947.
She graduated from South High School in Minneapolis, where she learned English, and subsequently earned bachelor of science and master of science degrees in chemistry from the University of Minnesota.
Mrs. Rouse held two patents for synthetic dyes, taught chemistry at Macalister College, and worked in heart surgery research at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She was also Minnesota State Woman's Table Tennis Champion in 1957.
She moved to Schenectady in 1960 and began teaching in the public secondary schools. After moving to Pittsfield in 1973, she taught science at Miss Hall's School and, for many years, headed the science department. She retired in 1999, after 25 years of service.
Mrs. Rouse enjoyed traveling, gardening and photography. She also was a competitive bridge player and accomplished knitter and needle-pointer.
Besides her mother of Melbourne Place, she leaves her husband of 47 years, Thomas O. Rouse; two daughters, Katrin Rouse Weir of Springfield, and Tina I. Rouse, of Cabin John, Md., and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Iive M. Rouse, who died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, will be Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at 2 p.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME. Calling hours will be Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
She will be missed by her grandchildren, Anekah, Terrell, and Kalev. Mrs. Rouse also leaves her loving sons-in-law, Louis Weir and Mark Murray.
She was predeceased by her brother, Mart, in 1987, and her grandson, Lukas, in 2003.
