Joseph R. Ginthwain Sr., 58

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Joseph Rodger Ginthwain Sr., 58, of 212 Springside Ave. died Monday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness.

Born in Pittsfield on April 11, 1947, son of Kristantos and Elizabeth Eurbin Ginthwain, he was a 1966 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He served in the Army Reserve from 1966 to 1972.

At the time of his death, Mr. Ginthwain had been employed by GE in the logistics department for 31 years.

He was a drummer with the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps. He enjoyed fishing, playing tennis and bowling.

He and his wife, the former Valerie Martel, celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary Oct. 10, 2005.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Joseph R. Ginthwain Jr. of Beverly and Rodger E. Ginthwain of Pittsfield; a daughter, Vanessa Ginthwain of Pittsfield; two brothers, Kristantos Ginthwain of Hickory, N.C., and Robert E. Ginthwain of Dalton; a sister, Theresa Louison of North Adams, his granddaughter, Amie, and many nieces and nephews.

A brother, Richard L. "Skip" Ginthwain, died in 2002.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Ginthwain will be conducted tomorrow at 1 at Dery Funeral Home by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes' Church.

Calling hours will be from noon until the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Boys' and Girls' Club, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
