Richard H. Mezejewski Jr.

Richard H. Mezejewski Jr., 62, of 714 NE 147th Ave., Vancouver, Wash., formerly of 60 Stratford Ave., Pittsfield, died Saturday at home of a heart attack.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 1, 1943, son of Irene Metterville Mezejewski and the late Richard H. Mezejewski Sr., he attended St. Charles' and St. Joseph's grammar schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1962.
He attended Berkshire Community College.
He served in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1965.
Mr. Mezejewski spent most of his life as a journalistic reporter and photographer. In the late 1960s, he worked for the Lincoln Journal in Nebraska and, in 1983, was editor of Business Software magazine. He also worked many years in the computer field.
He was director of the All-Ireland Cultural Society of Oregon and past president of the society.
He enjoyed fishing and hiking with his dogs. He was a freelance photographer and writer and enjoyed writing poetry. He enjoyed reading, especially books pertaining to history and the Civil War.
He collected guns and various artifacts on the American Indian culture.
He also volunteered his time to many organizations.
His wife, the former Lucille Hansel, died in 1988.
Besides his mother, of Pittsfield, he leaves two daughters, Maria Thomas of Yakima, Wash., and Lisa Mezejewski of California; a sister, Irene T. Mezejewski of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, and his companion of 17 years, Laurie White of Vancouver.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A celebration of the life of Richard H. Mezejewski Jr., who died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, will be held at Mount St. Helens in Washington State in Spring 2006. Richard's wishes were to be cremated and to have his ashes spread atop Mount St. Helens.
There will be a Mass on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 11 at St. Charles' Church, Pittsfield. The Rev. Peter Gregory will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society, the Hurricane Katrina victims through the Red Cross, the Veterans' Administration or to a charity of your choice. Richard also leaves his loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Richard was a free spirit. He lived his life to the fullest and cherished his family and many friends. He was a loving son and devoted brother and companion. We miss and love him very much.
