Elizabeth J. Joubert

Elizabeth J. Joubert, 62, of 8 Pleasant View Park, Rockland, a native of Pittsfield, died yesterday at home after a long battle with cancer.

Born on Aug. 21, 1943, daughter of William A. and Elizabeth Kirk Hayes, she was a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.

She also graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield in 1964 and from the University of Connecticut.

A registered nurse, Mrs. Joubert was employed by Carney Hospital in Dorchester for 20 years.

Before her job at the hospital, she worked at Berkshire Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and St. Ann's Hospital in Fall River.

For the past three years, she had been a safety officer for Siena Construction Corp. in Cambridge.

She served on the board of directors for the Massachusetts Nurses Association and was chairwoman of the Carney Hospital MNA bargaining unit for 11 years, treasurer of the Massachusetts Nurses Foundation and a member of the Susan Hayes Scholarship Committee at Woodward School. She founded the Carney Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group and was its facilitator for 10 years.

She received the Excellence in Nursing Practice Award in 1994, the Labor Relations Award in 1998.

She received the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Outstanding Outreach Educator Award in 1999 as well as beimg awarded the Image of the Professional Nurse Award in 2004.

She enjoyed gardening and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

She leaves four daughters, Jennifer R. Joubert, Tricia M. Joubert and Sharon E. Kelly, all of Weymouth, and Jessica L. Joubert of Rockland; three brothers, Charles L. Hayes of Atlanta, Patrick T. Hayes of Dennisport and Kevin F. Hayes of Hanover; three sisters, Margaret M. Campbell of Braintree, Helen M. Hayes of Pittsfield and Theresa A. Doyle of Rockland; three grandchildren, and her former husband, John R. Joubert.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elizabeth "Liz" Joubert, who died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, will be conducted Wednesday at 10 at McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, 809 Main St. (Rte. 18 opposite South Shore Hospital), South Weymouth, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 at St. Francis' Church in South Weymouth. Visiting hours are tomorrow from 4 to 8.

Memorial donations may be made to the Caritas Carney Hospital Cancer Care Memorial Fund, Oncology Suite, 2100 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, MA 02124. Elzabeth "Liz" Joubert also leaves three grandchildren, Kaya R. and Ashley E. Kelly, and Cherise E. Joubert.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard J. Hayes and David J. Hayes.
