Sylvia R. Goodman

Sylvia R. Goodman, 73, formerly of 41 South Onota St. and 14 Melbourne Place, died Sunday at Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield after a long illness.
Born in New York City on Feb. 6, 1932, daughter of Louis Fischman and Lillian Sewitch Frost, she was educated in New York schools and moved to Pittsfield as a young woman.
She was a graduate of Berkshire Community College's licensed practical nurse program and. She also earned certification as a pharmacy technician.
Mrs. Goodman moved to California in the early 1980s to be near family and was employed by Casa de Mañana in La Jolla. She returned to Pittsfield in 1984 and worked as an LPN at the former Valley View Nursing Home in Lenox and at Berkshire Retirement Home. She retired in 1992.
She was a member of Knesset Israel Synagogue and active in its Sisterhood, Hadassah and B'nai B'rith.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and knitting, playing mahjong and traveling to the Caribbean.
She and her husband, Gerald H. Goodman, were married June 20, 1948, at Knesset Israel Synagogue at its former Linden Street location. He died March 22, 1974.
She leaves four sons, Steven A. Goodman of Dalton, Jeffrey M. Goodman of Riverside, Calif., and Mitchell D. Goodman and Dale S. Goodman, both of San Diego; three daughters, Ann R. Magri, Betsy M. Carchedi and Lynne D. Goodman-Leary, all of Pittsfield; 20 grandchildren, and 44 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Sylvia R. Goodman will be conducted Thursday morning at Knesset Israel Synagogue, 16 Colt Road, at 11 by Rabbi David Greenspoon. Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery.
If friends desire, memorial donations in her name may be made to Congregation Knesset Israel in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Shiva will be held at her daughter Lynne's home at 520 Gale Ave. in Pittsfield.
