Horace J. "Baldy" Costa Sr.

Horace J. "Baldy" Costa Sr., 75, of 78 Williamsburg Terrace died Saturday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a brief illness.

Born in Ludlow on Feb. 10, 1930, son of Manuel and Josephine Servil Costa, he attended schools in Pittsfield.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Costa was vice president and co-owner of Ever More Lumber Co. in Becket, retiring in 1989. Before that, he was employed by the former Kelly Lumber Co.

He also formerly worked at Kelly's Diner.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed working in his yard and traveling to Florida.

He and his wife, the former Nancy M. Carlopoli, were married July 16, 1954, in Mount Carmel Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Horace J. Costa Jr. and Jeffrey M. Costa, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Darcy M. Patti of Pittsfield; a sister, Mary E. DaSilva of Pittsfield; a brother, James Costa of Dalton; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Horace J. "Baldy" Costa Sr. died Saturday, Oct. 29. The funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 10 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James J. Joyce, pastor. Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be at the funeral home tomorrow, Nov. 1, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home. Loving grandfather to Derek, Nicole, Tyler and Danielle Costa, and Taylor Patti, and great-grandfather to Emilie Costa.

He also leaves daughters-in-law Kim and Michelle Costa, and a son-in-law, Christopher Patti. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Costa, and by two sisters, Victoria Luz and Rose Luz.
