Ethel B. Hathaway, 86, of 293 High St., Pomeroy Manor Apartments, died Saturday morning at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, where she had resided since Oct. 18.
Born in Peru on Aug. 28, 1919, daughter of George and Lena Hunter Baumann, she attended schools in Windsor and Dalton.
Mrs. Hathaway was employed by Crane & Co. in the stationery department for 10 years, retiring in 1981 as supervisor of the sample department.
She also worked at the former Jansen Hardware as a clerk for many years.
She was a member of Hillside Agricultural Society, the Order of Eastern Star Franklin Chapter 92 in Adams, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary of Dalton, the Dalton Triad, Worthington Golf Club, Wahconah Country Club Pitch League and the North End Bowling League of Dalton.
She enjoyed doing crafts, playing cards and bowling.
Her husband, Russell N. Hathaway, whom she married Feb. 6, 1937, died March 9, 1994.
She leaves a daughter, Marjorie E. Demary of Dalton; a brother, Milton Baumann of Argyle, Texas; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth A. Hathaway, died Feb. 24, 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Ethel B. Hathaway, who died Oct. 22, 2005, will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 27, at 11 at First Congregational Church of Dalton, 514 Main St., by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor.
Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery, Hinsdale. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Dalton Ambulance in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is handling arrangements.
She will be lovingly missed by her six grandchildren, Nancy Hathaway, Kelli Henry, Karri Woodard, Kurt Demary, Kristen Rapkowicz and Kevin Hathaway, and by her four great-grandchildren, Zacheri Eddy, Trevor and Peyton Demary, and Sierra Henry.
She was also survived by her devoted son-in-law, John T. Demary, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth J. Hathaway, and by many nieces and nephews.
