Emelie Porter

Emelie Porter, 98, formerly of Wahconah Heights, and a longtime resident of Cheshire, died Tuesday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Cohoes, N.Y., on Dec. 21, 1906, daughter of Henry and Rose Aubin Choiniere, she was educated in North Adams and Pittsfield schools.

Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Porter had worked at the former Rice's Silk Mill and the former Glix Brand Pajama Co.

She was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church, and a member of the Cheshire Senior Center.

Her husband, Charles F. Porter, whom she married Nov. 27, 1930, died Jan. 24, 1993.

She leaves a son, Charles W. Porter of Burlington, Conn.; a daughter, Barbara Lussier of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Emelie Porter, who died Tuesday, Oct. 18, was predeceased by her brothers, Robert A. Choiniere and Alphonse T. Choiniere, and her sisters, Dorothy Grandbois and Isabelle Egan. She leaves her loving daughter-in-law, Mary Porter.

Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 21, at 10:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Charles Church with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.
