Priscilla Helen Kinney

Priscilla Helen Kinney, 84, of Tyron Estates, Columbus, N.C., formerly of Warwick Street, died Sunday at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, N.C.

She had resided in North Carolina since 1997. She was also a former resident of Larrywaug in Stockbridge.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 3, 1921, daughter of William Gardner O'Connell and Grace Bradley O'Connell, she attended the former Dalton High School and was a graduate of Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y. She also attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where she was an art major.

Mrs. Kinney was employed by Crane & Co. for many years. In later years, she worked for two doctors in Laurens, S.C. At one time, she worked for Patricia Reach Decorations in Westfield.

While in the Berkshires, she was a member of the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge and St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee. She was a member of Pittsfield Country Club, where she won many club championships in her youth. She had also served as treasurer for the former Stockbridge Visiting Nurse Association.

While in South Carolina, she was a member of the Church of Epiphany of Laurens.

A golf enthusiast, she was a member of the Tyron Country Club, where she made her first hole-in-one in 1998. For 40 years, she enjoyed attending the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Ga.

Her husband, Carey Titus Kinney, whom she married Feb. 27, 1943, in Nashville, Tenn., died in 1972.

She leaves three daughters, Judith Mattison of Carrollton, Ga., Christine McCann of Greer, S.C., and Carol Kinney Grimes of Weaversville, N.C.; two sisters, Patricia O'Connell Reach of Westfield and Judith O'Connell Mongeluzzi of Huntington, N.Y.; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Priscilla Helen O'Connell Kinney is also survived by five grandchildren, Sherry Ponder, Carey Brown, Jeffrey McCann, Wendy Harrison and Michael McCann; three step-grandchildren, Karen Grimes Cortes, Christopher Grimes and Kevin Grimes; six great-grandchildren, Jessica Ponder and Benjamin Ponder, Justin Brown, and Mattie Harrison, Beth Harrison and Preston Harrison; three step-great-grandchildren, Teresa Cortes, Tommy Cortes and Cecilia Cortes, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Hope O'Connell Harden. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Kinney will be held Monday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Gay M. Rahn, priest in residence, officiating. She is interred in Pittsfield Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
