James A. Winters

James A. Winters, 95, formerly of 170 Depot St. died Monday afternoon at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since Sept. 16.

Born in Lenox Dale on July 19, 1910, son of Joseph and Corine M. Borden Winters, he was educated in Lenox Dale schools.

Mr. Winters was an in-process inspector with GE, retiring in 1972 after 41 years. Previously, he worked for Byron Weston Company.

He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church.

He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs, and received many awards from GE for suggestions he made.

He belonged to many area fishing clubs, and enjoyed hunting, dog racing, poetry and family get-togethers. He was also an inventor.

His first wife, the former Eileen T. Bradley, whom he married June 5, 1937, died Dec. 22, 1986. His second wife, the former Rita Moro Martin, whom he married Nov. 12, 1988, died Dec. 22, 1995.

He leaves two daughters, Patricia W. LaCroix of Lanesboro and Susan T. Dimanche of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mr. Winters will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from St. Agnes Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Winters may be made to St. Agnes Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 890 E. Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Mr. Winters also leaves two grandchildren, Linda L. Trudel and Fay Dimanche; three great-grandchildren, Katherine G. Trudel, Mary E. Trudel and Rechael Valentine; a beloved extended family including Missy Hubbard, Alycia Hubbard, Haley Hubbard, Trina Levesque, Cristy and Bryan Raney, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Winters, late of Becket, and a sister, Margaret Chapman, late of Pittsfield.
