Howard W. King Sr.

Howard W. King Sr., 87, of 600 Main St., River Run, died Thursday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, where he had resided since July 25.
He had lived at River Run for 20 years.
Born in Pittsfield on April 24, 1918, son of Walter and Theresa Gough King, he was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A laborer with the Massachusetts Highway Department, Mr. King worked at the Pittsfield Maintenance Depot for 37 years, retiring in 1976. Following his retirement, he did lawn work with his brother, Harold King. In his earlier years, he was a taxi driver for the former Checker Cab Co.
For 30 years, he attended every race at Lebanon Valley (N.Y.) Speedway.
He was a member of the Tyler Cafe Gang, and went on many of its bus trips. He also enjoyed bowling at Lara-Bowl in New Lebanon, N.Y., and was a citizens band enthusiast.
His former wife, Elizabeth P. Chandler King Stokes, died in 1977.
He leaves a daughter, Pamela E. Sanginetti of Lenox; a son, Timothy King of Pittsfield; a brother, Charles King of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Another son, Howard W. "Butch" King Jr. died in 1978, and another daughter, Diane V. Fraley, died in 1995.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Howard W. King Sr., who died Thursday, Oct. 6, was also predeceased by three brothers, Walter King of Pittsfield, Kenneth King of Pittsfield, and his twin, Harold King of Dalton, and a sister, Dorothy Kelly Chilson of Pittsfield.
He leaves six grandchildren, the Rev. Peter M. Fraley, and Sara, Amy, Joshua, Shaun and Ryan King, and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 10 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton with the Rev. Peter M. Fraley, his grandson, officiating.
Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home, 890 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County, 66 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield.
