Stanley F. Zawistowski

Stanley F. Zawistowski, 86, of 167 Second St., died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided for a short time.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 7, 1919, son of Stanislaus and Anna Ptak Zawistowski, he attended local schools.

A Navy Reserve veteran during World War II, he served from 1942 until 1945 as a baker first class. He served in the South Pacific on the destroyer USS Conway, Hedron and Fleet Airwing 6.

A baker by trade, Mr. Zawistowski was employed at Komuniecki's Bakery until retiring in 1981.

He had previously worked at the former Federal Bakery, the former Grand Union Bake Shop, and ran his own bake shop in Chatham, N.Y., from 1953 until 1958.

He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, AARP and the Disabled American Veterans.

His wife, the former Alexandria Karpeck, whom he married May 10, 1941, died April 24.

He leaves two sons, William Z. Zawistowski of Las Vegas and Peter S. Zawistowski of North Reading; a daughter, Gloria Maston, with whom he made his home; two brothers, Edward J. Zawistowski and Charles F. Zawistowski, both of Pittsfield; three sisters, Ann Ostrander, Sophie Zaccari and Jeanne Burke, all of Pittsfield; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Stanley F. Zawistowski, 86, was called safely home, Oct. 6, 2005. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles' Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will receive guests from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
