Harold E. Topping

Harold E. Topping, 78, of 12 Dalton Division Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
He had resided in Dalton for 52 years.
Born in Lenox on Nov. 9, 1926, son of Fred J. and Anna Mathis Topping, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Topping was employed as a machinist by GE for 43 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and the Pittsfield VFW.
He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed dog racing.
He and his wife, the former Pauline I. Sibolski, were married Feb. 20, 1954, in the former Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Anne M. Sturma of Newnan, Ga., and Mary E. Beraldi of Dalton; a son, William M. Topping of Dalton; two sisters, Mary Bettit of Daytona, Fla., and Joan Garivaltis of Pittsfield, and seven grandchildren. Another son, Paul E. Topping, died July 30, 1994.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Harold E. Topping, 78, of Dalton, who died Sept. 30, 2005, will be Tuesday at 9 from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 at St. Agnes' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 9 at the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. He leaves his seven grandchildren, Ryan, Kellie, Shaun, Jason, Vincent, Jenna and Amber.
