David Murray

David Murray, 80, of 40 Sunset Ave. died Thursday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.

Born in Boston on July 2, 1925, son of David and Jane Davies Murray, he was a 1942 graduate of the former Lenox School.

He earned an A.B. degree from Harvard University in 1948.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

A journalist, Mr. Murray worked for Newsweek, UPI and the Chicago Sun-Times during his career. In 1968, he traveled with the press corps covering Sen. Robert Kennedy's presidential campaign, including Kennedy's victory speech at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, where he was assassinated.

He was a member of Trinity Church.

He enjoyed reading books, writing, and traveling.

He leaves two daughters, Jane Elise Hearren of Amissville, Va., and Katherine Murray of Thailand; a son, David Murray of Philadelphia; a brother, Gillis Murray of Watertown; a sister, Caroline Gates of Waynesboro, Va., and seven grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for David Murray will be Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at 3 at Trinity Church in Lenox, conducted by the Rev. Stephen P. Booth, rector. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240, which is in charge of arrangements.
