Harvey M. Bond

Harvey M. Bond, 94, of Kimball Farms, died Saturday at its Nursing Care Center.

He had been a resident of Kimball Farms for 13 years.

Born in Russia on April 28, 1911, son of Tamara and Hillel Bond, he came to this country in 1922, and lived in New York for 70 years.

He graduated from the Thomas Jefferson High School in New York City and attended Columbia University.

In World War II he served as a lieutenant colonel in the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and was appointed as the assistant director for the Displaced Persons Division. In this capacity he traveled throughout Europe.

Mr. Bond was the founder, president and chief executive officer of the Gold Tree Co., which supplied corporations with elegant jewelry. He retired in 1991. After his service in Europe, he worked at the Benrus Watch Co., and served as its vice president from 1956 to 1968.

He was a docent at Tanglewood and was actively involved in a variety of programs at Kimball Farms.

He was a collector of fine arts and antique books, an avid reader and especially enjoyed golfing.

His wife, the former Sylvia Bond, whom he married June 24, 1937, predeceased him by ten months.

He leaves a daughter, Deborah Bond Berk of Weston; a son, Stephen R. Bond of Paris, France, and four grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Harvey M. Bond will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. The WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his grandchildren, Elizabeth Berk, Alexandra Berk, Matthew Bond, Catherine Ponset-Bond; his son-in-law, Dr. Steven A Berk, and his daughter-in-law, Bruna Bond. Two sisters, Ada and Clara, predeceased him. Mr. Bond was, above all, dedicated to his family.
