Nato A. Cianfarini

Nato A. Cianfarini, 92, of 53 Parkside Ave. died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since May.
Born in Hinsdale on Nov. 2, 1912, son of Louis and Domenica Biondi Cianfarini, he attended schools in Pittsfield.
An Army veteran of World War II, he received several medals and ribbons.
Mr. Cianfarini was employed by GE for 36 1/2 years, retiring in 1972 from the distribution transformer department.
He was a baseball umpire for 30 years in Berkshire and Hampden counties, on Cape Cod and in the Springfield area. He also was a pitcher and played center field with the former Pittsfield City League.
In 1938, he played for the all-star Sons of Italy Lodge 704 team against the Brooklyn Dodgers at Noel Field in North Adams. The Dodgers' coach was the great Babe Ruth, who also played first base.
In 1960, he was assistant coach for the championship Pittsfield Post 68 American Legion baseball team. He was also a scout for the Kansas City Athletics baseball team and a fan of the Red Sox. In 1997, he was inducted into the UNICO Berkshire County Hall of Fame.
He was a communicant of All Souls' Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, Pittsfield Sportsmen's Club and the Berkshire County Umpires Association.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, gardening and playing boccie.
His wife, the former Irene L. Leoncini, whom he married June 22, 1946, died Feb. 20, 1987.
He leaves a son, Daniel R. Cianfarini of Arlington; a sister, Antoinette M. Daoust of Pittsfield, and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Nato A. Cianfarini will be Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005b at 9:45 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor of All Souls' Church.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Beloved father of Daniel R. Cianfarini and father-in-law to Margaret Cianfarini. Loving grandfather of Julia E. Cianfarini. Dear brother of Antoinette M. Daoust. Nato was predeceased by two brothers, Patrick and John Cianfarini, and by two sisters, Rose L. Cianfarini and Parmina C. Russo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels program of Elder Services of Berkshire County, 66 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
