Norman Arthur Bedard

Norman Arthur Bedard, 76, of 44 Bernard Ave. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.

He had been a resident of Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility for seven months.

Born in North Adams on Aug. 10, 1929, son of Arthur and Sidonie Courtemanche Bedard, he attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.

Mr. Bedard was employed by GE as a crane operator, retiring in 1989 after 42 years of service. He also had worked in its shipping department. For many years, he also was a stocker at the former Adams Super Markets.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and of IUE Local 255.

He collected coins and stamps, enjoyed RV camping and walking, and was a fan of Johnny Cash.

He and his wife, the former Anna S. Stavaski, were married May 28, 1949, at St. Mary's Church in Cheshire.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Arthur Norman Bedard of Pittsfield; three daughters, Brenda B. Meacham and Bonny Bedard, both of Pittsfield, and Lynn M. Bailey of Cedar Park, Texas; a sister, Phyllis Sedgwick of Dalton, and two grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Norman A. Bedard, who died Sept. 24, 2005, will be tomorrow, Sept. 27, at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church.

Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders or to Parkinson's Disease, both in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Bedard is lovingly survived by his two grandsons, Matthew and Jonathan Bailey; his son-in-law, David Meacham; his daughter-in-law, Susan Bedard, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Rene Bedard, and a sister, Ellen Roberts.
