Kathryn Hurt

Kathryn Hurt, 93, a seven-year resident of Devonshire Estates, died Thursday at Providence Care Center.

Before moving to Devonshire Estates, she had resided at 43 Arlington St., Pittsfield, since 1943.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 14, 1912, daughter of John Seymour Lennox and Lilian Bach Mason Lennox, she was a 1929 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1934 graduate of Queens University, her father's alma mater in Ontario.

Mrs. Hurt was a homemaker.

She was a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ Congregational in Pittsfield, where she served as Sunday school teacher.

She was active as a Cub Scout leader and a volunteer at the Christian Center.

She enjoyed hiking, swimming, reading, knitting, and playing bridge and cribbage. She was an active family genealogist and had written and published a book of her family history.

She and her husband spent many summers in Ontario and Montana, and enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada and around the United States.

Her husband, retired GE engineer William C. Hurt Jr., whom she married May 29, 1936, died May 25, 2002.

She leaves a daughter, Louise H. Frankenberg of Dalton; two sons, William C. Hurt III of Geilenkirchen, Germany, and John L. Hurt of Dalton; a sister, Jean Dexter of Sturbridge, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The Rev. Robyn Burns, interim minister, will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the First Church of Christ Congregational in Pittsfield. Music will be provided by Lou Steigler, organist. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made directly to the Red Cross for hurricane relief or to the Berkshire Humane Society. Survivors include daughters-in-law Ruth Hurt of Geilenkirchen, Germany and Jane Hurt of Dalton; son-in-law John Frankenberg of Dalton, and grandchildren Reza Sadeghi, Mark Frankenberg of St. Petersburg, Fla., Suzanne F. Brown and husband Barry of Rochester, N.Y., Karen F. Lipovsky and husband John of Blacksburg, Va., John Keith Hurt and wife Amy of Colchester, Conn., Margaret Walker and husband Patrick of Round Lake, Ill., Rebecca Hurt of Seymour, Wis.; and great-grandchildren Benjamin Frankenberg, Alexander Brown, Jeremy Hurt and Malia Walker.

She was predeceased by a brother, George Carson Lennox. The WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
