Margaret Emily Hickey, 78, of 25 Diamond Terrace died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in London, England, on Jan. 16, 1927, daughter of George and Louisa Cole Heffer, she was a graduate of St. Martins in the Fields there.
She came to the United States in 1945 and settled in Pittsfield. She had resided in Dalton since 1963.
During World War II, she was a volunteer for the Red Cross.
Mrs. Hickey was employed as a companion to Mrs. Fred Crane Sr. for many years, visiting and reading to her. At one time, she was a sales clerk at Jordan Marsh in Boston and the former Steiger's in Springfield. She had also been an aide for the Visiting Nurse Association.
She was a member of the Church of England and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Pittsfield.
She enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and family, and watching golf on television, especially Tiger Woods.
She and her husband, William J. Hickey, were married July 8, 1950 at St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Lynn E. Gagnon of Chicopee; two sons, Michael J. Hickey of Dalton and Kevin P. Hickey of Pittsfield, and three granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Margaret E. Hickey, who died Sept. 15, 2005, will be Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on East Street in Pittsfield with the Rev. Gay M. Rahn officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
She is lovingly survived by her three granddaughters, Colleen, Danielle and Jennifer Hickey, a son-in-law, John F. Gagnon, and a daughter-in-law, Lisa M. Hickey, and by two nephews, David and Shane Carmel. She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Carmel of Pittsfield.
