Marvin J. Gersh, M.D.

Marvin J. Gersh, M.D., 83, of Whitehouse Station, N.J., died yesterday at his home.
He was the father of Miriam Maduro of Pittsfield.
Born in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of Edward and Anna Jaffe Gersh. He lived in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., before moving to Oldwick, N.J., in 1979.
He moved to Whitehouse Station six years ago.
He was a Captain in the United States Army during World War Two.
Dr. Gersh graduated from Alfred University, and, in 1947, from New York University Medical School.
After starting a private practice in Pediatrics in Tarrytown, N.Y., he served as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Einstein Medical School and as Director of the Outpatient Pediatrics Clinic at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx.
He was also Associate Professor of Pediatrics with the Family Practice Clinic at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, N.J. In 2003, Dr. Gersh retired after ten years at the Medical Disabilities Department of Determination in New Brunswyck, N.J.
Dr. Gersh loved to read and published two books, "How to Raise Children at Home in Your Spare Time" and "Handbook of Adolescents." He enjoyed tennis and scuba diving, and spending time at his home in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles.
His wife, the former Mila Maduro, died in 1993.
He leaves a son, David Gersh, of Bedminster, N.J.; a daughter, Miriam Maduro of Pittsfield; two brothers, Joe Gersh of Queens, N.Y., and Eugene Gersh of Pottersville, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service will be held today at 10 a.m. at KEARNS FUNERAL HOME in Whitehouse, N.J. Burial will be in the Jewish Community Center of Flemington Cemetery. Visitors will be received at Miriam Maduro's home in Pittsfield on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m., and on Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to HospiceCare of the Berkshires, 369 South Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201, or to Knesset Israel Hebrew School, 16 Colt Road, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Dr. Gersh also leaves a sister-in-law, Bonnie Gersh, two grandchildren, Adam and Mark Goodman, and his beloved friend, Ellen Roshin-Thorn of Princeton, N.J.
