George F. Farris

George F. Farris, 85, of 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshiretown Apartments, died Saturday morning at Berkshire Medical Center shortly after being admitted.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 11, 1919, son of Attalla and Mary Joseph Farris, he was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic Pacific theater and was stationed in Japan with the occupation troops.
Mr. Farris was employed by White Star Confectionery Co. as a salesman, retiring in 1985 after 52 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the choir and Parish Council, and in charge of counting collections after Sunday Masses.
He was a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He leaves a sister, Florence M. Farris, with whom he resided.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- George F. Farris died in Pittsfield on Saturday, Sept. 10. Beloved uncle to June Hashim McCloskey, Ellen Farris, Richard Shogry and Timothy Farris.
The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Sept. 14, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. He also leaves several great-nieces and -nephews.
If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
