Maria C. Rufo

Maria C. Rufo, 95, of 30 Sunset Ave. died Wednesday morning at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.

She had resided in Lenox for the past five years, having moved here from Brighton.

Born in New York City on Sept. 23, 1909, daughter of Cesidio and Gerarda Cucchi Perruzza, she attended schools there.

Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Rufo was also a hair stylist, tailor and actress with the Italian Theater Club of New York.

While in Brighton, she was a member of the Italian's Women's Club of Boston and the Brighton Historical Society. Five years ago, she was honored, and was the first recipient of an award given by Boston's Mayor Menino for her outstanding volunteer work at the Veronica Smith Senior Center.

Her husband, Candido Rufo, whom she married May 22, 1927, died February of 1989.

She leaves a son, Bruno Rufo of Williamstown; a daughter, Eugenia Reinholt of Lenox; two brothers, Lucio Perruzza of Long Island, N.Y., and Rinaldo Perruzza of Fall River; a sister, Josephine Elling of Great Barrington, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside funeral service for Maria Carmella Rufo will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Newton Cemetery in Newton. There will be no calling hours.

She is also survived by loving son-in-law, Haldor Reinholt, and her beloved five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton NH 03086. ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, is in charge of arrangements.
