Eugene J. Loveday Sr.

Eugene J. Loveday Sr., 75, of 291 Onota St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pontiac, Ill., on April 19, 1930, son of Henry and Clara Marker Loveday, he was educated there and graduated from high school in 1948.
He moved to Pittsfield 50 years ago.
Mr. Loveday was an independent cross-country truck driver for 20 years, retiring in 1976. He also worked at one time at the former Lee Lime Corp. as a machine operator.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing the guitar.
His wife, the former Constance Sweener, whom he married in 1957 in Norwell, died Sept. 23, 1978.
He leaves four sons, James R. Loveday of Pittsfield, Eugene J. Loveday Jr. of Lakeland, Fla., Marshall Loveday of Ellington, Conn., and Alan Loveday of Enfield, Conn.; a daughter, Karen J. Flynn of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard Loveday of Mansfield; a sister, Delores Barton of Boston; 19 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Eugene J. Loveday Sr., who died Sept. 3, 2005, will be conducted Friday at 1 at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Lee Smith, chaplain at Berkshire Medical Center.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from noon to 1, prior to the service at the funeral home. He also leaves his sister-in-law, June Drake, and her husband Edward Drake, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Loveday, and by a sister, Ranelda Snarski. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund through the American Red Cross, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
