John Michael Kelly, 75, of 65 Columbus Ave. died yesterday morning at Hillcrest Commons Nursing Home after a short illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 15, 1929, son of John R. and Mary Irene Lassor Kelly, he was schooled in Pittsfield and was set to graduate with the class of 1948 but went to Kentucky as a sophomore to become a Trappist and returned to St. Joseph's High School and graduated with the class of 1950.
Mr. Kelly was employed at GE as a laborer, retiring in 1985 after 25 years of service.
He was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He was a life member of the Pittsfield Elk's Lodge 272, and an active member of the Berkshire Museum.
A history buff, he maintained a personal, extensive library of history, and enjoyed reading.
He was an avid walker and enjoyed his walks along North Street.
He leaves a sister, Margaret M. Kelly of South Hadley, and a brother, Robert L. Kelly of New Cumberland, Pa.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- John Michael Kelly, 75, was called safely home on Sept. 1, 2005. The funeral will be on Saturday at 8:15 from the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Friday, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations can be made to The Elks Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
The Elk's Lodge of Sorrows Ritual will be held tomorrow at 6:30 at the funeral home. He also leaves two nieces and three nephews
